Under the responsibility of the Superintendent, the person holding the position is responsible for operating the treatment plant, the filtration plant and their related works. It operates the equipment, it carries out the analyses required for water treatment and it takes care of the management of alarms for all sanitation structures. The incumbent of the position is called upon to perform temporary mandates at the filtration station and at the treatment plant.
1. Formation
- Diploma of professional studies (DEP) in water treatment.
2. Experiment
- Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience in the field of employment.
3. Knowledge
Sewage treatment plant:
- Knowledge of measuring instrument readings and sanitation equipment;
- Knowledge in the analysis and interpretation of laboratory results;
- Knowledge of wastewater sampling techniques.
Filtration plant:
- Knowledge in the operation and monitoring of control systems and related equipment;
- Knowledge in writing reports and records;
- Control of systems and equipment.
4. Others
- Hold a valid driving license/class 5 (class 3 — an asset);
- Hold a WHMIS training certificate (asset);
- Hold your health and safety card on construction sites (ASP) (asset).

1. Operational tasks — Purification and filtration plant
1.1. Inspect equipment, components and various computerized systems in order to detect failures or anomalies and inform your immediate supervisor when required;
1.2. Prepare, measure, mix and transport chemical products to maintain supplies, when required;
1.3. Apply and adjust the dosages of the various chemicals used in water treatment;
1.4. Analyze test results and instrument reading records and make adjustments to equipment and various systems;
1.5. Perform various security checks;
1.6. Respond to complaints and communicate with citizens;
1.7. Complete various daily, monthly and annual reports, keep the activity log (operating book) up to date and make verbal reports to the immediate supervisor;
1.8. Perform minor maintenance work or help qualified tradespeople install or repair equipment;
1.9. Participate in the calibration of various measuring instruments.
2. Operational tasks — Wastewater treatment plant
2.1. Ensure the operation and monitor the various computerized systems as well as all sanitation equipment in order to regulate the treatment and the treatment efficiency of the treatment plant according to the standards and practices in force;
2.2. Read flow meters, indicators, hour meters and any other control and recording device in order to measure the various parameters inherent in the operation of sanitation structures;
2.3. Perform physicochemical and bacteriological control analyses of the tributary and effluent of the treatment plant as well as of industrial and commercial wastewater discharges and interpret the results;
2.4. Perform flow measurements and sampling of industrial and commercial wastewater;
2.5. Install and calibrate portable measuring instruments in sewer manholes in order to characterize industrial and commercial wastewater.
3. Operational tasks — Filtration plant
3.1. Operate and monitor the various control systems, computerized systems, alarm transmission systems, equipment, processes and related equipment in order to regulate the treatment, distribution of water and any other aspect related to the Water Service;
3.2. Read flow meters, indicators, hour meters and other control and recording devices in order to measure the various parameters inherent in the operation of sanitation structures;
3.3. Apply and adjust the dosages of the various chemicals used in the treatment of drinking water.
4. Others
4.1. Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements;
4.2.Act as an intervener during emergency measures when required;
4.3. Perform any other task related to his areas of responsibility.
